We carry out observations and random spot checks on our care support workers

In order to ensure we maintain high standards of care we carry out random observations and spot checks. This means we send our training officers to locations where care appointments are due to take place. We then observe the performance of our carers and personally review the care they are delivering to the service user.

These observations and spot checks help us see if carers require new training, but above all that carers are carrying out the care to service users adequately and to the highest possible standard. The service user is at the heart of everything we do here at ProCare Nursing, we must ensure that all service users receive care that only helps dignify and improve their way of life, whether that be an elderly person or somebody with a Mental Health condition, we must deliver the highest standard of care to help vulnerable adults live healthy and dignified lives.

What do we check?

We check a number of diverse things based on the service user care needs. It maybe that a service user’s care requirement is that they need help with taking medication in the mornings, we observe how a carer helps the service user take their medication and how they record that, making sure our carers perform this task exactly how it should be carried out.

If service users are not following correct procedure, we will review this and book the carer in for new training. This ensures that the care support worker receives the support they need, and when they re-enter the care field, they will be carrying out care tasks adequately and to the highest standard possible.

Spot checking helps maintain and improve the care being delivered by our health and social care agency. We care about service users, we only want to help improve their quality of life, but however, we also care about our care support workers, which is why we personally review them in this way. Spot checks help care support workers, in most cases our carers do a great job, however sometimes we do spot where carers need training.

Further training only helps our carers deliver care in the field, it makes their roles easier, there is nothing worse than going into an appointment feeling un-equipped and un-prepared, we train all of our care support workers, when they walk into a service users home they can be confident knowing they are equipped and ready to deliver high quality care.

ProCare Nursing are an award-winning agency and have been established in the care field for over 20 years. We have serviced every kind of care need you can think of, and have always ensured that carers are fully trained and the service user is at the heart of everything we do.

Purpose:

This course enables participants to gain a better understanding of how to provide lifesaving support to a casualty.

• Choking

This course can really help save someone’s life; it can also prevent a casualty occurring any further injuries while waiting for professional help to arrive at the scene.

For example, if someone is choking or in shock, or needs to be put into a recovery position, and you do not know what to do in the time it takes for the ambulance to arrive at the scene, then there can be serious risk that a person could suffer further injury such as brain damage being an example, what if someone is choking but you do not know how to dislodge the blockage, the person choking cannot breathe and therefore is starving the brain of oxygen which then can lead to serious brain damage.

These are the facts, we are not trying to scare you, but the NHS record thousands of emergencies and if people knew first aid skills our basic life support course teaches, then further injury is avoidable.

Autism Services in Wales to receive funding after 2021

It was recently announced by the Welsh Government that they are going to continue funding autism services in Wales. Vaughan Gething announced that autism services will receive an extra £3m a year after the Integrated Autism Service pilot comes to an end in 2021.

Not only is funding going to continue, the Welsh Government is going to carry out a review for autism and neurodevelopmental services, this review will keep Welsh Government ministers up to date with factors such as are these services sustainable over the long term in Wales.

Michael Vaughan pictured below said,

“The integrated autism service is raising awareness of autism across Wales, improving access to assessment and diagnosis and putting in place additional specialist support in every region.
The money I am announcing today will ensure that our commitment to improving autism services is fulfilled in the long term. Alongside this I am commissioning a review to ensure that services are meeting people’s needs and the money is being invested where it’s needed.”

ProCare Nursing work with those who have Mental Health conditions

ProCare Nursing have over 20 years’ experience caring for those who have autism. We are an award-winning health and social care agency who have fully trained care support workers delivering care to those who have autism and Mental Health conditions.

We tailor care packages to service user’s needs, if you require very specific needs then we will ensure those care needs are delivered. Let’s look at an example for somebody with autism. People with autism like to live life by positive routines, such as the way they like their breakfast cooked and the way they wash their hands after eating, these activities need to be carried out in a positive routine, if something happens to the routine then service user’s who have autism can become unsettled and their behaviour can deteriorate.

Our care packages ensure that all the very specific needs and routines are cared for. We discuss the service user’s needs with family members and adapt the care packages so that their needs are met. This is what we mean by tailored care packages, we go to great lengths to ensure people who have autism lead healthy and dignified lives.

We train all our care support workers in-house

We have our own in-house training facility training all of our carers how to help service users with their care needs. Working with people with autism and Mental Health conditions can be challenging, however we give our carers every opportunity to be effective when carrying out care work for those with autism. Here is a photo of a recent training course teaching carers how to deliver quality care to those with autism and Mental Health conditions.

Here are a range of photos showing carers restraining techniques.

In certain situations, it may be necessary to restrain service users, at ProCare Nursing we believe that in the unfortunate event of having to restrain a service user, that they are restrained with the utmost respect and dignity, and in a way that reduces stress rather than increases stress.

Lets take a recap of where ProCare Nursing is at

Over the last 6 months we have been investing more and more in our health and social care agency. Lets break down some of the key changes we have been making that are already improving our health and social care agency and the services we deliver.

1) We have employed a new Nurse Manager

We recruited Sarah Evans our new Nurse Manager. Sarah has come with a philosophy of helping nurses with their personal development and training. We have already recruited a number of qualified nurses and are making time for them to receive personal development reviews.

Not only is Sarah improving the standards of nursing in our agency, she is also helping nurses re-register with the NMC and supporting nurses through this process. Here is Sara pictured below.

2) We have invested in our in-house training facility

To ensure that we deliver high standard care services, we have developed our own in-house training facility. Throughout the last two months we have been consistently stating that in-house training is very important, it is important as we are able to oversee all training carried out.

A lot of health care companies will out-source training, this is problematic, why? Because the training may not be well delivered and of poor quality, overseeing training ensures quality control. Here are a number of photos of training being developed to existing and new care support workers from our in-house facility.

3) We have employed a new Training and Learning Development Manager

As well as having our own in-house training facility, we have also employed a new Training and Learning Development Manager to oversee training, not only overseeing training but also developing the health care courses being delivered.

Having a dedicated training manager will only help improve the care being delivered by our agency. All care support workers will be well equipped and receive training that will only help service users live a dignified life and improve quality of life.

4) We have invested in over £20,000 in new technology

We are employing people and developing in-house training courses and facilities, but if we do not have the technology to support our employees then we cannot improve the care we deliver from our agency. This is why over the past 6 months we have been investing in new technology to ensure we can deliver high standard care services supporting all of our office staff and care support workers.

We have recently safeguarded all of our IT infrastructure and installed new anti-virus and firewall software, this ensures that all of our data from employees and service users is safe, this was a £1000 investment made by us.

The next investment we made was a whopping £20,000. We have invested in an OTP Device system, this system will track care support workers and ensure all calls to services users homes and locations are carried out.

In the past you would have to take a care support workers word for it, that they have been to a service users home or location and carried out the appointment. However in some cases appointments are missed or falsely claimed to have been carried out, the OTP system will stop all that from happening and tell us digitally if and when appointments have been delivered.

We are not saying that we do not trust our care support workers, we have the most loyal and dedicated care support workers, but as we were taught in school one person can spoil it for the rest, this system will iron out the chinks in the armour and tell us who is delivering appointments and who is not, we can then ensure we have the best care support workers working for our agency. What is paramount is we deliver the highest standard of care to our service users, the OTP system will enable us to do just that.

Contact us

The changes we have made at our health and social care agency clearly show our commitment, and dedication in striving to deliver care that is of the highest standard to service users. If you are a health care company working in the private or the public sector get in touch, we can help deliver all of your care requirements on time, on budget and to the highest of standards.

Brexit suspends Parliament which means less debate about the Health and Social Care sector

Today Boris Johnson has come good on his action to suspend Parliament, by close of day today Parliament is suspended until the 14th of October. That means there will be no time to debate any topic of interest including Brexit, not only that but no sitting time in Parliament to debate health and social care.

We are not politically biased toward any political party. Through July and August we have been talking about the effects Brexit could be having on the health and social care sector. With Parliament suspended to sort out Brexit this is simply more evidence that home affairs are sadly being put on the back burner, this means for the time being the health and social care sector will remain in crisis. We don’t envy Boris Johnson someone has to do something and we recognise the task at hand and what he has on his plate.

ProCare Nursing however are soldiering on, we are continuing to invest in new key staff in the office. This week we have employed a new training and learning manager to oversee all of our health care training carried out in-house.

We pride ourselves on our in-house training, we ensure all training of existing and new care support workers is carried out in-house, we do this so that we can oversee all training and make sure it is delivered to the highest standard. Here are a few photos of a recent aggression and management course.

A lot of health and social care companies in Cardiff outsource their health care training to free-lancers. The problem with this is you cannot oversee training being carried out, there are a lot of free-lance cowboys out there who will tick the names off the list purely to make a fast buck, or get the courses over as soon as possible to make money, thats not quality training and that is why we train in-house.

Don’t get us wrong, there are good free-lance trainers out there, but training and supporting care workers is so important, ultimately what we do in the classroom is translating out into the field of health and social care, so we take our training extremely serious and that is why we oversee it at our in-house training facility.

To help free-lance trainers we let them use our facilities at our offices, this way we can oversee training, this also gives free-lance trainers the opportunity to deliver quality training in health and social care.

Whatever your views are about Brexit and Parliament being suspended don’t worry, your local health and social care agency is still hard at work, we are always on the move and ensuring that ProCare Nursing is delivering excellent care to service users out in the field.

Labour pledge free health care for over 65’s in England

It’s conference season for all the political parties. Right now, it is Labours turn and so far, there has been a whole range of debates roaring. But the one that caught our eye was a pledge from Labour to give free health care to those who are aged 65 and over, and to those who really need it.

ProCare Nursing are a health care provider and service the south west of England. It will be interesting to see how things will unfold over the next few months, from Brexit proceedings to a possible general election, to a possible re-call of Parliament, either way you look at it exciting times are ahead good or bad.

But pledges like the one made by Labour at their conference will need to be debated in Parliament, so we can only hope that will happen. Things like the financing of this pledge will need to be debated because free care will come at a cost to taxpayers and no doubt other political parties will have something to say about it, including the general public.

We also have to consider the ageing population, in June this year we talked about the need for 20,000 extra carers by 2034, if Labour were to make healthcare free for over 65’s then they would be funding that care for many years to come as people live longer, the costs could be huge funding free health care.

There are obvious benefits to delivering free health care, a lot of elderly people cannot afford health care in older age, this pledge would safeguard a lot of vulnerable older people, however, the practicalities of putting a policy through like this would need to be carefully considered.

ProCare Nursing are an award-winning health and social care agency

If care packages are going to be subsidised by the existing or future governments ProCare Nursing are here to service every care requirement. We are a health and social care agency that has been around for over 20 years providing high quality care to service users.

We are here to ensure that all service users live a dignified life to the highest level possible. Our top priority is to make sure that vulnerable adults such as elderly citizens are looked after. We train all of our care support workers from our in-house training facility, not only do we train newcomers but also update and re-train all of our existing care support workers with any new training that becomes available.

Training our care workers ensures that we deliver high quality care in the field. Here are photos of a recent training course getting underway at our own training facility.
