Home care workers have to officially register as home care support workers by 2020

Did you know that it will be compulsory for all home care workers to register to work in the social care sector by 2020. There are a variety of reasons why the Welsh Government are introducing this new measure from improving professionalism in the care sector, to better standards of care and to ensure all care workers have the right level of training to carry out quality care work in Wales.

Registering as a care support worker means that the care agency you work with will be responsible for teaching you the Code of Professional Practice for Social Care. Care agencies will be responsible in providing care support training so that when you enter the field of care you will be well equipped to carry out quality care work in any given environment.

Registering as a care support worker will also give families and loved ones confidence that high standards of training in care are being given by care agencies such as our own care agency ProCare Nursing.

Mark Drakeford who was the man who first introduced these measures as Health and social services minister (later becoming First Minister of Wales) said:

“The domiciliary care workforce deserves the recognition, investment in training and support from their employers, registration will help deliver this and ensure home care workers have the right training that teaches the skills necessary to carry out quality social care.”

ProCare Nursing are well on-course to registering all of its home care workers. We are already providing quality training to our home care support workers from our dedicated in-house training facility. Up to 1 million elderly people suffer abuse in the UK every year

When carrying out care for vulnerable people that includes the elderly you must ensure it is delivered to the highest standard. Neglection can be a terrible thing and can cost many elderly lives.

Firstly what does neglect look like?

Abuse of the elderly can take many different forms from physical, emotional, or sexual abuse, other forms of abuse include financial abuse where the elderly can have their money stolen and theft is committed.

The charity Elder Abuse in 2018 published some alarming statistics on their blog. The charity estimates that there are up to 1 million victims of elder abuse each year in the UK, that is a staggering statistic which has led to the charity campaigning for tougher penalties against those who get convicted of elder abuse.

Switching to ProCare Nursing can help reduce abuse statistics

We are a health and social care agency that passionately care about the care sector. Our offices are based on Cowbridge Road East in Canton pictured below.

We provide care support workers to private homes, residential homes and to Mental Health units in Cardiff and the South Wales area. Our care support workers are fully trained to carry out domiciliary care to the highest standards ensuring senior citizens live a dignified life.

Our care support workers are all trained from our in-house facilities and go on to be certified to QCF standard level 2 in care support work. Here are a few photos of recent training courses being held this last week, the first course is mandatory training in care support work where things like CPR are taught and other wide ranging topics.

The photos below show a PMVA course, PMVA stands for Prevention Management Violence Aggression. This course teaches carers how to take care of themselves in the event of patients being aggressive and when conflict arises.

The course teaches restraint techniques and how to defend yourself in the event of physical violence carried out by the service user.

ProCare Nursing have been established for over twenty years

We have been working in the health and care sector for over twenty years years and were founded in 1997. In this time we have gone on to provide award winning care, we put forward our senior Care Support Worker Sara Wells for an award at the Wales Care Awards in 2017, Sara went on to win the “Excellence in Dementia” care category. Here is Sara pictured below furthest right with her award at Cardiff City Hall along with her certificate.

At ProCare Nursing we have all of the facilities and office workers ensuring that all the needs of the service users are met. Our coordinators pictured below ensure that care support workers are on time meeting the domiciliary needs of the service users.

We don’t want to see these statistics of elder abuse increase, we are determined at ProCare Nursing to provide care support workers who are just as passionate as we are in providing first class care to elders. Get in touch with us if you believe that the agency you are using is not providing the adequate domiciliary care needed to ensure the welfare of your loved ones, we are here to put that right.

ProCare Nursing was established in 1997 lets take a trip down memory lane

ProCare Nursing have been established for over 20 years and was formed in 1997, our office is shown above. Throughout July we have been talking about the nitty-gritty from green papers on social care the conservative government are currently writing, to the service that we offer and the kind of clients we work for, however we thought we would spice things up and take a trip down memory lane, so lets see what was happening in 1997 while ProCare Nursing was being established.

So here we go, what was happening in 1997 twenty two years ago, wow we feel old.

Titanic Mania

In 1997 the film Titanic was made and directed by James Cameron. Titanic starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet and the film raked in £22,961,480 in its opening weekend. Who remembers going back and forth to the cinema to watch Titanic over and over, we have a couple in our ProCare Nursing office and they are not ashamed to say it.

Google.com

Everyone knows the phrase Google it ,right? Well in 1997 Google registered their domain name google.com, Google went from strength to strength hitting a few curve balls along the way. In 1997 who knew that Google were going to be caught up in scandals such as election rigging and all kinds of other human rights issues. Google today is worth £45,868,127,142 (Just under 46 billion pound).

Tony Blair was elected Prime Minister forming a Labour Government

In May 1997 Tony Blair won a landslide election and expelled an 18 year Tory government led under Margaret Thatcher and John Major. Tony Blair would go on to lead the country for 10 years pushing through a major modernisation programme of Great Britain amongst other things.

Princess Dianna death

Who could ever forget the terrible events in Paris on the 31st of August 1997. Princess Dianna being hounded by the paparazzi tried to flee away from them in her car, sadly in Pont de l’Alma road tunnel her car crashed and as a result of her injuries died. The UK became grief stricken and we all remember the mountains of flowers that were given in remembrance of her in the weeks after her death.

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery

We started off with a film release so lets finish with another film release, yeahhh baby yeahhhh. In May 1997 “Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery” was released in cinemas starring Mike Myers and Elizabeth Hurley, the film took £53,658,960 world wide and went on to make two more sequels.

ProCare Nursing was established in 1997

Last but certainly not least ProCare Nursing opened its doors to Cardiff and the South Wales area. ProCare Nursing for the past 22 years have provided award winning health and social care services to the welsh public and organisations all over Wales.

More about ProCare Nursing

ProCare Nursing have been established for over 20 years providing health and social care to the Cardiff and the South Wales area, our office based in Canton on Cowbridge Road East is shown below.

We have over 100 carers providing award winning care to Cardiff and the South Wales area. We have fully qualified nurses available to meet the requirements and needs of our clients, one of our senior Care Support Workers won an award in 2017 for “Excellence in Dementia Care” at the Wales Care Awards, here is our very own Sara Wells pictured furthest right with her award.

We have worked for local councils and many health organisations in our 20 year history, here are a range of companies we work with providing high quality health and social care.

The reason we are able to deliver high quality care is because we train all of our staff in-house, we have fully qualified trainers with years of experience in training ensuring all of our carers are fully equipped to deliver high standard care.

Here are a few photos of a recent training course being held at our in-house facility.

We are here to help you save lives

Going back to our original topic, we are here to help save lives in our local community. We have a HeartStart Defibrillator ready and waiting if in the unfortunate event it has to be used. If you are a local business or community organisation then call us and we will be here to support you in a medical emergency.

The beast from the east doesn’t stop us from caring about our clients

We have emphasised the kind of clients we service and let you know about our setup here at ProCare Nursing over the last few weeks, next up we are going to show you a few testimonials from happy clients, first we start with a five star testimonial from George.

George said:

“Id like to give all you carers a big thank you for your superhuman efforts during the recent snow that made movement impossible. Your wonderful carers braved the snow and extreme cold and didn’t miss one visit. Thank you once again!”

This is how important we take care, even in terrible weather conditions we are here to ensure that the clients we take care of are looked after.

It is so important that vulnerable people receive the care that they need come hell or high water.

If we have another snow season like we did in 2018 it shouldn’t stop care companies from shutting down, we know how vital it is for our clients to continue to take their medication if needed and also to have in some cases food prepared for them, we have contingency plans that enables us to deliver care even when tough weather conditions hit us here in Cardiff.

During tough weather conditions in 2018 our office workers were in the office ensuring that the care needs of our clients were met.

If carers were not able to make it to clients houses or residential homes because of tough weather conditions then we would draft in carers to ensure all needs were met. One contingency we have is to recruit carers locally, this means that carers can operate more efficiently in a community they are familiar with getting from place to place quickly especially in tough weather conditions.

We have dedicated care workers who go above and beyond ensuring people from vulnerable adults and senior citizens get the care they deserve. we provide mandatory training for all of our carers, carers have the option to gain QCF qualifications from level 2 up to level 5 (if required, ring us for more information) in health and social care, this ensures all of our carers are fully equipped to carry out care work during challenging conditions and environments.

We have even gained excellent feedback from our care support workers, here is a testimonial from one of our residential care support workers.

Lee said:

“I started working with a number of agencies and did not once receive the kind of support training or supervision that came with working for Procare Nursing. It really impressed me that there is a real sense of appreciation of how difficult it can be to establish yourself as an agency worker but with hard work, the internal support available and the right caring attitude it can be done. Thank you Procare Nursing.”

As you can see we even receive testimonials from our residential care workers, we support our workers with quality training and do our best to accommodate their needs when it comes to the timing of shifts. We do not throw out care workers to the wolves we train them to ensure they are fully equipped to carry out the quality care needed for our clients.

Our Prevention Management Violence Aggression course keeps care support workers safe

Over the past two days we have been delivering a PMVA training course, PMVA stands for Prevention Management Violence Aggression. This course teaches carers how to protect themselves in the event of conflict when caring for the service user. Here are a few photos of course participants taking part in learning restraint techniques to protect themselves from potential aggressive service users.

Due to the environments in which care supporters are delivering care conflict can be highly likely. Carers work in environments such as Mental Heath units and mental residential housing where people with severe Mental Health conditions live, this makes confrontations and aggressive behaviour a high risk which is why carers have to be well trained.

Here are photos of carers learning the latest restraining techniques from locks and protection restraints.

Our PMVA course is taught in-house at our specialist training centre, we carry out all training in-house to ensure quality control of the course, we do not outsource any training to a third party so that we can oversee all training that takes place, the problem with outsourced training is you don’t know if the training will be carried out thoroughly and to a high standard, this is why we make in-house training a priority so we can ensure training is to the highest standard.

The PMVA course also looks at the theory of being able to diffuse potential conflict and looks at the following:

* Non-aggressive conflict management
* How to manage potential dangerous situations
* How to communicate with service users in the event of conflict

Lots of information is taught over the course of the two days, all course participants gain a certificate for participating on the PMVA course.

All of our trainers are fully qualified and have years of experience delivering care support and PMVA training. We invest in the best trainers and investing is worth it to ensure care support workers are well equipped and well trained.

When considering applying for a career in care then always make sure that thorough and quality training is available and get reassurance from the agency, the last thing you need setting out in a career in care is to have a bad experience, here at ProCare Nursing we believe care work is a fulfilling and rewarding career path especially if you’re a compassionate person.

If you would like to know of any career prospect and care support work opportunities get in touch we want to hear from you. We have all of the necessary facilities to ensure you are fully trained and equipped and once gaining experience you will be able to progress in the health and social care sector.

We are also a health and social care agency that promotes diversity and inclusivity, we believe in a culture of respect and compassion and focus in five key areas of diversity and inclusivity these are:

* Disability
* Gender
* LGBT
* Multi-cultural
* Multi-generational

Is brexit harming the Health and Social Care sector

Over the past three years politics has been dominated by brexit, first it was the referendum in 2016 where the UK decided to leave, then the ongoing two year negotiations that has probably divided the UK even more. It’s probably fair to say that our political system in the UK is in tatters, however we are going to talk about the effect brexit could possibly have in the health and social care sector.

Firstly as an award winning agency that has been established for over 20 years we believe that the care sector could be in serious trouble, if brexit continues to dominate the political agenda in this country then the health and social care sector is not going to improve, but why would we say this?

The more we go on about brexit and debate brexit means other areas in Wales and the UK are going to be neglected especially in the health and social care sector. In 2017 the conservative government said they would be publishing a Green Paper that will help go towards fixing the crisis in our health and social care sector, the Green Paper objective was to look at whether the social care sector was financially and politically unsustainable, and whether local authorities were doing enough to support and invest in older people from providing adequate housing as an example.

The Green Paper was delayed six times since 2017 and is still unpublished, our question is this, is brexit causing these delays? MP Matt Hancock Secretary of state for health and social care has blamed the delays on “narrow partisan politics”, partisan politics means political MP’s can be so dedicated to their political parties that no compromises can be made between other political parties, basically nobody is getting along.

However with the toxic brexit debate raging is this having an affect on other areas such as health and social care? If so then we are a long way away from the social care crisis being fixed putting older peoples care at risk.

We recently wrote an article reporting on the need for 20,000 more carers in Wales by 2034, it is forecast that there will be 100,000 people over the age of 80 by 2034, this will mean more resources will need to be provided to help care for more elderly people, but with Green Papers being delayed are we going to come up with the solutions to ensure that our senior citizens are looked after in their older age, and with brexit dominating the political agenda these solutions are not going to come any time soon. Here is a graph that shows the age increase in the population by 2034.

ProCare Nursing going above and beyond to support the health and social care sector

ProCare Nursing are a health and social care agency providing quality care to a variety of clients. We support residential homes, Mental Health care units and private homes looking after the elderly and vulnerable adults. Here are a range of organisations we service in the health and social care sector.

We provide first class care to all of our clients and train all of our staff in our in-house training department. We have a big advantage training in-house because it ensures that we maintain quality control, all of our carers are fully equipped to work in any given environment. Here are a few photos of a recent training course underway at our in-house facility.

We have nurses and carers who have worked for us for years. Here is Sara Wells one of our senior Care Support Workers (pictured furthest right) receiving the award for “Excellence in Dementia Care” at the Wales Care Awards.

Don’t let brexit leave you feeling blue

We have award winning carers that deliver high quality care to our clients. Even though the Green Paper for social care has been delayed and delayed probably because of all the division that brexit is causing, that doesn’t mean to say that the future is completely grim, there are award winning agencies out there like ours that work tirelessly in the health and social care sector improving peoples lives.

So, if you need advice and support get in touch we are here to offer you the solutions you need to ensure people get the care they deserve.

We have all of the office facilities to ensure smooth running of our health and social care services

We are going to keep saying it, ProCare nursing have over 20 years experience in the health and social care sector. We were established in 1997 and have gone from strength to strength working with local authorities and well known organisations in Cardiff and the South Wales area, our offices are situated in Canton, Cowbridge Road East at Radnor Court pictured above.

Here are clients who trust us to deliver high standards of care year after year.

In order for us to service our clients effectively we have a great team of people in the office that make it all happen. In the office we have a health and social care training department, here we teach all of our training in-house ensuring that all training is quality controlled giving training that only equips carers to deliver first class care. Here are a few photos of carers taking part in one of our recent training courses.

We have a dedicated office that takes care of the support we provide to Mental Health units, this office is also responsible for distributing our qualified nurses to residential homes, the NHS and to Mental Health secure units. Here are photos of our office executives working and ensuring that all needs are met with regards to our Mental health units and nursing distribution.

We also provide domiciliary care to local authorities, residential homes and private homes from a separate office. Here are photos of our domiciliary office who coordinate all care work being carried out by carers in Cardiff and the South Wales area.

We have all of the facilities to ensure that all of our clients receiving care packages from ProCare Nursing are met to the highest standards, and when we mean standards did you know that here at ProCare Nursing we are an award winning agency? In 2017 we put forward Sara Wells one of our senior Care Support Workers for the “Excellence in Dementia” care award at the Wales Care Awards, Sara won the award, here is Sara pictured furthest to the right along with her certificate.

However, everyone at ProCare Nursing has played their part in winning this award, from the office staff past and present, trainers and coordinators that make ProCare Nursing run efficiently providing high quality care to our clients no matter who they are.

If you are a private nursing home, private residential home, charity or are based in the care sector and need support we can help. We have a number of packages that can suit your requirements, it does not matter if you need 24 hour support or just 1 to 2 hours support a week, we provide fully trained carers and support workers that provide high quality care to our clients.

ProCare Nursing QCF training courses help save lives

All of our training courses are carried out in-house to ensure quality control, a few days ago we wrote about the benefits of in-house training so now we are going to look a little deeper into the teaching on the course.

All of our nurses and carers are trained and equipped to deal with any emergency. When we say emergency what kind of emergency? Here we look at two scenarios, one, cardiac arrest and two, choking.

We provide thorough mandatory training to all of our care workers. There is also the opportunity to certify carers depending on their role to a QCF level 2, 3 and 5 certificate in care assistance work. In our training we look at things like CPR and what a carer should do if someone goes into cardiac arrest.

Well firstly CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, after calling for an ambulance the action required is for a carer to press up and down on the casualty’s chest (this is known as chest compression), after 30 chest compression’s the carer will also give the casualty two deep breathes in through the mouth, this process should be continued until the person regains consciousness and starts breathing again or until professional help arrives.

Here is a video from the British Heart Foundation that explains all you to know about the symptoms of heart attacks and what to do in that situation including CPR procedure.

Here are a few photo’s of a group of carers on one of our training days learning how to do CPR.

The next scenario is what does a carer do in the event of someone choking. Choking is when a persons airways can become either partly blocked or fully blocked, if the airways are blocked completely then immediate first aid attention is needed to save someones life from choking.

Our training courses provide all of the necessary techniques to help someone who is choking, from people at home or in hospital ward units, whatever the environment we equip our carers in the event that someone is choking.

Here is a video from St Johns Ambulance that explains what to do if someone is choking.

Here we are only looking at the tip of the iceberg in the kind of training that we provide, we train carers in other aspects of care depending on the level of care a carer provides such as manual handling, administering medication and how to use a defibrillator in the event of someone having a cardiac arrest, if you decide to use our agency you can have confidence that our carers are well trained and that your loved ones are in good hands.

If you require any information with regards to our courses get in touch, we train carers from other agencies and many other organisations working in the care sector, and because we have our own in-house facilities we can train a great number of carers from our head office throughout the year.
